Great place for a weekend
spent a weekend at the Muckrach Lodge Hotel in January 2005 with a group of friends. Our welcome was excellent, advice on what to do was great, the breakfasts were delicious - especially the porridge. The rooms were comfortable, the showers had plenty of hot water. The bar had a decent selection of whisky, and a roaring fire to sit in front of.
But the best thing about the Muckrach was the evening meal which was absolutely superb. An Arbroath Smokie flan followed by the most wonderful beef was one evening's fare; and a sea bream starter with lamb to follow was the other evening. There were three different main course options each evening, plus steak and vegetarian available too.

surprised
My husband (to-be!) surprised me with a break at Muckrach. I had no idea where we were going and even when the plane took off for Inverness I still didn’t know!! Of course I was wondering what kind of hotel we were heading for and was so pleased when we arrived here. The owners are characters and obviously run their hotel with much pride. It has the kind of service etc. that you only find really in owner-run places. Food was simply delicious and we loved having truly local produce as there’s no point in coming all the way to Scotland to be served with something frozen in Birmingam. The room was comfy, warm and very clean, and the hotel had loads of information on what to see and do. The funicular railway was fun.Very Scottish place, not too big or too stuffy, and just what we wanted |
